Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup apples, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, until just combined.
- Fold in the diced apples gently into the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top.
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, and butter to make the crumb topping. Sprinkle it evenly over the batter.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the cinnamon apple drizzle by combining 1/2 cup of diced apples, 1/4 cup of sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook until the apples are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once the cake is done, let it cool for 10 minutes in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack. Drizzle the cinnamon apple mixture over the top before serving.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider using a mix of different apple varieties.
- You can substitute coconut oil for butter for a dairy-free version.
