Delightfully soft and chewy, these homemade pretzel bites are perfect for snacking or entertaining, served warm with your favorite dip.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F – 115°F)
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup baking soda (for boiling water)
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
  7. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and cut into bite-sized pieces.
  8. Boil the pretzel bites in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove them with a slotted spoon and place on the lined baking sheet.
  9. In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the pretzel bites. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before serving with your favorite dips.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add garlic powder or cheese powder to the dough.
  • Serve with mustard, cheese sauce, or caramel for dipping.
  • These pretzel bites can be frozen after baking; reheat in the oven for best results.
