Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F – 115°F)
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup baking soda (for boiling water)
- 1 large egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and cut into bite-sized pieces.
- Boil the pretzel bites in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove them with a slotted spoon and place on the lined baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the pretzel bites. Sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving with your favorite dips.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add garlic powder or cheese powder to the dough.
- Serve with mustard, cheese sauce, or caramel for dipping.
- These pretzel bites can be frozen after baking; reheat in the oven for best results.
