Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup heavy cream (for frosting)
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat the heavy cream in a mixing bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and continue mixing until stiff peaks form.
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the entire cake.
- Decorate as desired and serve.
Notes
- For an extra flavor kick, add a tablespoon of almond extract to the batter.
- This cake can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
