Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup diced green chiles (canned or fresh)
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced green chiles until evenly distributed.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently until just combined; do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
- Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1 inch thick and cut out biscuits using a round cutter.
- Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they are touching each other for soft edges.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add chopped fresh herbs like chives or cilantro.
- These biscuits can be frozen after baking; reheat in the oven before serving.
- Adjust the amount of green chiles based on your spice preference.
