Ingredients

  • 4 cups diced apples (peeled and cored)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 packet (1.75 oz) fruit pectin (such as Sure-Jell)
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Prepare your canning jars and lids by sterilizing them in boiling water.
  2. In a large pot, combine the diced apples, sugar, lemon juice, and spices. Stir well to combine.
  3. Let the mixture sit for about 30 minutes to allow the apples to release their juices.
  4. Add the water to the pot and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently.
  5. Once boiling, add the fruit pectin and stir until it is completely dissolved.
  6. Continue boiling for 10-15 minutes, stirring constantly, until the jam reaches the desired thickness.
  7. Test the consistency by placing a spoonful on a cold plate; if it holds its shape, it’s ready.
  8. Carefully ladle the hot jam into the sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace.
  9. Seal the jars with lids and process them in a boiling water bath for 5-10 minutes.
  10. Remove the jars and let them cool completely on a clean towel or cooling rack.

Notes

  • For a smoother texture, blend the apples before cooking.
  • This jam can also be made with a mix of different apple varieties for added flavor.
  • Store the jam in a cool, dark place for up to a year.
