Description
Indulge in the sweet and tangy flavors of homemade apple pie jam, perfect for spreading on toast or using as a filling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups diced apples (peeled and cored)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1 packet (1.75 oz) fruit pectin (such as Sure-Jell)
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Prepare your canning jars and lids by sterilizing them in boiling water.
- In a large pot, combine the diced apples, sugar, lemon juice, and spices. Stir well to combine.
- Let the mixture sit for about 30 minutes to allow the apples to release their juices.
- Add the water to the pot and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently.
- Once boiling, add the fruit pectin and stir until it is completely dissolved.
- Continue boiling for 10-15 minutes, stirring constantly, until the jam reaches the desired thickness.
- Test the consistency by placing a spoonful on a cold plate; if it holds its shape, it’s ready.
- Carefully ladle the hot jam into the sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace.
- Seal the jars with lids and process them in a boiling water bath for 5-10 minutes.
- Remove the jars and let them cool completely on a clean towel or cooling rack.
Notes
- For a smoother texture, blend the apples before cooking.
- This jam can also be made with a mix of different apple varieties for added flavor.
- Store the jam in a cool, dark place for up to a year.
