  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined (the batter will be thin).
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While the cakes cool, prepare the chocolate frosting by beating together unsweetened cocoa powder, butter, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth and creamy.
  9. Once the cakes are completely cool, spread frosting on the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
