Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups peeled and diced apples (e.g., Granny Smith)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and sugar.
  3. Add the softened butter and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients, and mix until crumbly.
  4. Press 2/3 of the mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
  5. In another bowl, combine the diced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir to coat the apples evenly.
  6. Spread the apple mixture over the crust in the baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the apples to create a topping.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  9. Remove from the oven and drizzle with caramel sauce while still warm.
  10. Sprinkle sea salt on top before slicing into bars. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
