  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 10 hot dogs
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms, then knead for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 10 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 24 inches) and wrap it around each hot dog, pressing the ends to seal.
  8. Carefully place each wrapped hot dog into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving.
